Apraxia intervention program

In order for speech to occur, messages need to go from your brain to your mouth. These messages tell the muscles how and when to move to make sounds. When a child has apraxia of speech, the messages do not get through correctly. A child with CAS knows what they want to say. The problem is not how the child thinks but how the brain tells the mouth muscles to move. The Apraxia program in the speech clinic focuses on multi modality treatment approach by combining tactile kinesthetic cues auditory and visual along with building the oral motor musculature. The following approaches are used in combination depending on the need of the child. .

  • PROMPT
  • Beckman Oral Motor approach
  • Oral placement Therapy
  • Talktools sensory motor approach for apraxia
  • The Kaufman Speech to Language Protocol (K-SLP)
